Through music, art, and history, your child will be introduced to the maritime world in a fun and engaging way. All programs are subject to NC state taxes, 10% Family Membership and above discount applies. Registration closes the day prior at 5pm!
First Mate 4-Day Camps: 9am – 1pm, Ages 7 – 12, $60
June 11 – 14: Maritime Medicine NEW
The cannonball has blown splinters all through your arm and the cook rushes up with a drink and a bandage… This camp will cover medicine aboard vessels from Native Americans to present day. Dissect the quarantine station that was situated in our waters for many years.
June 25 – 28: Mariner’s Camp
Learn about traditional boat building in the Lower Cape Fear. Participants will make models, learn about our maritime heritage, take field trips, and discover the rich history of pilots, and the evolution of boat building from the Age of Sail to the 20th Century.
July 9 – 12: Salty Sea Life NEW
Students will learn about the sea life that is local to the Lower Cape Fear and how they have helped the region economically. Students will take a trip to the NC Aquarium at Ft. Fisher as well as walk the waterfront in Southport.
July 23 – 26: Light up my World NEW
Students will visit Bald Head Lighthouse and Oak Island Lighthouse while learning about preventing tragedies, and the disasters we have already seen.
August 13 – 16: Ironclads and Columbiads NEW
How did local families keep moral up while their brother was at war fighting against their uncle? Learn about life in battle and on the home front, new technology being utilized on the battlefield and at sea, and what significant battles occurred in North Carolina. Field trips will be taken to some of the Civil War forts in the area.
