An employee in this class leads and participates in the accounting of revenues and expenditures for the City.

Work involves leading and participating in accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger preparation and maintenance, payroll functions, bank reconciliation, fixed assets and general financial reporting. The role serves as lead worker, acts in the absence of the Finance Director, and provides technical guidance to other finance staff.

The employee must exercise judgment and initiative in identifying and resolving the daily problems and activities of the fiscal control system.  Work is performed in accordance with established finance procedures, local ordinances and North Carolina General Statutes governing the responsibilities of local government fiscal operations under the North Carolina Fiscal Control Act.

The employee functions with decision-making authority and performs responsibilities with a degree of independence, receiving instruction and advice only on matters involving significant departure from established policy, assisting the Finance Director in any phase of the fiscal operations.

Work is performed under the supervision of the Finance Director and is evaluated through conferences, performance appraisals, reports, and an independent audit of financial records.

Salary range: $38,000-$57,000. Salary based on experience and qualifications.

BUILDING INSPECTOR/CODES ADMINISTRATOR: City of
Southport is seeking applicants to work in the Planning & Inspections
Department performing technical and administrative work in the
issuance of permits and inspections of new construction and renovation
projects to ensure compliance with State building codes; enforce zoning
codes, CAMA and flood plain regulations, and other local codes and
ordinances. Applicant must be able to perform medium work exerting
up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force
constantly to move objects, visual acuity to work with data and figures,
operate a computer terminal, use measurement devices, and perform
building inspection tasks.

Applicant must have graduated from a
community college with course work in building trades and
considerable experience in the building construction industry and
enforcement of code standards; or an equivalent combination of
education and experience. Preference given to those with contractors
license.

Applicant must have a valid NC driver’s license, State
certification as a Building Inspector in the trades areas of electrical,
mechanical, building, and plumbing at Level 1 or Probationary
certification.

Salary Range $46,354 to 69,531.

Police Officer for the City of Southport provides law enforcement including: community policing, traffic, investigation and patrol duties (foot patrol & bicycle patrol). Department: Police: Minimum Requirements; Must hold a BLET Certificate from a BLET Training course accredited by the N.C. Criminal Justice Training and Standards Division or must be enrolled in a BLET program at the time of application. Applicants will need to provide a copy of their certificate or if currently enrolled a letter from the BLET director or coordinator. In lieu of a BLET certificate out-of-state applicants must hold full-time sworn status and be able to transfer certification as approved by the N.C. Criminal Justice Training and Standards Division. Applicants must have a High school diploma or successful completion of a certified GED program.  Applicants must also possess a valid NC driver license. Out-of-state applicants must have a valid driver’s license from the state of residence and have the ability to obtain a valid NC driver license by hire date. Hiring Range: $36,320 – $38,136.
